Dr. Dennis E. Hensley is the author of more than 50 books, including eight textbooks on writing, such as How to Write What You Love and Make a Living and The Freelance Writer’s Handbook. He is a contributing editor and staff columnist for “Writer’s Journal” and “Advanced Christian Writer”. He holds four college degrees in communication, including a Ph.D in English from Ball State University. Currently, he is director of the professional writing major at Taylor University Fort Wayne, where he holds the rank of professor of English. Dr. Hensley’s 3,000 freelance articles have appeared in such periodicals as “Writer’s Digest”, “The Writer”, “Essence”, “Grit Newspaper”, “The War Cry”, “Reader’s Digest”, “People Magazine”, and “The Detroit Free-Press”, among many others. He is a judge each year for the Christy Fiction Awards, the Evangelical Press Association Awards, and Th Gold Medallion Awards. He has written six novels and more than 150 published short stories. As a distinguished visiting professor or writer in residence, he has taught at more than 60 colleges, including Oxford University. Dr. Hensley served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, including a year of combat duty in Vietnam. He and his wife Rose have been married for 35 years and have two grown married children, Nathan and Jeanette.
